About the Event
The duo "Walicki-Popiołek" is an unusual ensemble that combines guitar and piano. Aleksandra Popiołek-Walicki, pianist, and Jakub Walicki, guitarist, have been working together since 2014. They are graduates of the Karol Lipiński Music Academy in Wroclaw. You are currently studying in Katowice under the supervision of prof. Wanda Palacz and prof. Teresa Baczewska. You are looking for original sounds in the music of Spanish and Argentine composers: Manuel De Falla, Joaquin Malats, Isaac Albeniz, Astor Piazzolla, Polish and German artists: Aleksander Tansman, Moritz Moszkowski as well as innovative solutions in the works of contemporary composers: Clarice Assad, Serge de Mosole, Dusan Bogdanovic and David Pavlovitz. You work a lot with composers and arrangers, play previously unrecorded songs and support the development of chamber music for guitar and piano. You have won competition prizes, including the 2nd prize at the 21st International Chamber Music Competition "Euterpe" in Corato, 2nd Prize at the 25th International Chamber Music Competition "Giulio Rospigliosi" in Lamporecchio and 3rd prize at the International Chamber Music Competition "Don Vincenzo Vitti" " In the Castellana Grotto. "
They have lively concert activities. In January 2020 they released their debut album "Iberico" with music from Spanish-speaking countries. The musicians were also honored with the prestigious Young Poland 2020 grant from the National Formum Muzyki.
